A Renewed Spirit for the Magical Mile!

The Magical Mile celebrates its renewed spirit with a new look and a fresh design.  Not only has the Wolcott Street / Lakewood Road Business Association installed new signs at the boundaries of Waterbury’s longest retail shopping district, but they have revamped their image with an informative, content-driven Internet presence. For years, the Association has provided renovation and rebuilding efforts which have enhanced commerce in the area and has successfully driven business and

customers together. In tough economic times, Waterbury and Naugatuck Valley area residents are hungrily searching for bargains, personal service, and true dollar value when shopping.  The friendly and committed businesses of the Magical Mile offer all of this.  Big Box retailers, privately-owned shops, restaurants and service-oriented businesses make the Magical Mile Waterbury’s premier shopping destination.

On the Magical Mile customers will find a variety of reputable law, real-estate, insurance and other financial service businesses like G. S. Regan Associates, Inc., Naugatuck Savings Bank, Webster Bank and more.  Restaurants such as Panera Bread, Kumo Japanese Cuisine, Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant, Big Franks and others offer pleasant dining experiences.  Retailers like TC’s Pawn Company, KarTele Cellular Phones, Lemon Tree Market, Play It Again Sports, and others provide bargain shopping, with a personal touch.  The diversity of Magical Mile businesses continues:  if you’re looking for home care, New England Home Care and Utopia Home Care are ready to serve.  Planning a vacation?  A&S Travel Center should be your first destination.

A consistently positive business experience is the commitment of Magical Mile members.  Each year the Association works to expand its role in the community.  Donating thousands of dollars to area charities such as Waterbury Youth Services; working with the Children’s Community School,  holding fundraisers for Disabled American Veterans and working with the town to keep their properties clean and attractive-looking are just a few of the ways members maintain a dependable relationship with the community and their customers.

The Magical Mile shopping district thrives.  Association member businesses stand apart from others in their commitment to offering the best to area consumers.  New growth is always on the horizon.  During the Holiday shopping season and year-round, the Magical Mile provides excitement, community and great dollar value!

Ten Years and Running

The Wolcott Street/Lakewood Road Business Association (WSLR) held its ten year Anniversary Reception on November 17th 2008 at Whooster St. Pizza located at 715 Lakewood Road.  Attending the reception were a lively group of business owners and managers from the past and present of the Association. Neri Hajrula, owner of Whooster St Pizza, served a mouth watering Italian buffet while beverages were donated by TC's Pawn Company Jewelry & Electronics Exchange.  Speakers at the reception included Rob Kane, outgoing chair of the WSLR and owner of KarTele Cellular Phones; and incoming chair Jay Sargent, regional manager of TC's Pawn Company Jewelry & Electronics Exchange.  Mr. Sargent says that he is excited and enthusiastic about assuming the role of chair, stating that he looks forward to helping the area continue to strive in these tough economic times by bringing the Magical Mile to the next step.  This includes the launching of its website: www.magicalmile.com.

“Welcome to Waterbury” billboard on Wolcott Road

As part of our modest Waterbury marketing campaign, on Friday, July 18th we announced our “Welcome to Waterbury” billboard on Wolcott Road with our new billboard as the backdrop.

The billboard highlights Waterbury’s rating as one of the top 100 places to raise a family (#43 actually) by Best Life magazine.

Mayor Mike Jarjura, WRC President Steve Sasala, Police Chief Neil O’Leary, State Senator Rob Kane and numerous state and local dignitaries were in attendance. Mayor Jarjura highlighted the strong financial position City finances are finally enjoying, thanks to his leadership and the hard work of the state oversight board. Steve Sasala discussed new economic development initiatives in the City, the Enterprize Zone designation and the strong, economic vitality we enjoy in our region.

Police Chief Neil O’Leary, lauded as one of the most successful chiefs in the country, talked about PAL (the Police Activity League), community policing and the extraordinary progress the City has made in combating crime: the strongest showing in Connecticut. Nationally, Waterbury is one of the safest cities of its size.

Senator Rob Kane, an architect of the “Magical Retail Mile,” called attention to the progress that’s been made in the Wolcott Street/Lakewood Road area. The billboard features the Magical Retail Mile insignia.
