The Magical Mile Shows Patriotism Once Again!

On June 13, 2008 The Wolcott Street / Lakewood Road Business Association (WSLR) held its annual flag raising ceremony with the assistance of local Veterans at 910 Wolcott Street in Waterbury. Among those in attendance were WSLR then Chair, Robert Kane, State Representative Selim Noujaim, the Disabled American Veterans local Chapter and several merchants from the area.  This year the association added a new component to the event: the sale of American flags by several businesses located on the Magical Mile. Proceeds were donated to the Disabled American

Veterans local chapter 11. Because of the generosity of participating businesses flag sales exceeded expectations! Commander Tom Cannavaro along with several other Veterans were presented a check for a $1000 which will be used to help our own local war heros.

Panera Bread graciously provided refreshments after the ceremony on their outside patio where the business community and local Veterans conversed and told stories about Waterbury’s past.

Wireless Zone® of Waterbury Donates $5,000 to Local Charity

Wireless Zone of Waterbury, through The Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving, Inc., has awarded a $5,000 grant to Wellpath, Inc., a regional non-profit behavioral healthcare provider with corporate offices located in Waterbury.“It’s nice to be able to give back to the community,” said Kathy Saksa, owner of Wireless Zone of Waterbury. “Since we provide cutting edge wireless technologies with Verizon Wireless products and services, it’s especially gratifying to know that we are helping such an important community

organization as Wellpath, Inc. to improve their agency’s technology.”

Wellpath, Inc. will be using the grant to support their agency-wide technology plan which includes Electronic Medical Records (EMR). EMR offers an opportunity for improving the quality of and access to children’s behavioral healthcare in Connecticut.

“This initiative will serve as a vehicle to begin the transformation of children’s behavioral healthcare in Connecticut into a more effective and efficient system of care, improving access to those most in need by capitalizing on emerging ‘e-health’ technologies”, said Gary Steck, CEO of Wellpath, Inc.

Last year, the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving, Inc. awarded a similar grant to the Waterbury Youth Services System, Inc. for their Computer Research and Learning Center.

“The grant is being used to operate our Technology Center, which provides an educational tool for students of all ages,” said Kelly Cronin, Youth Services Executive Director. “It allows our students internet access to continue their education, do research, apply for college admission, and even apply for scholarships.  It is, and continues to be, a huge success!”

Wireless Zone of Waterbury, a retailer of Verizon Wireless products and services and has been located in Waterbury for twenty years and has been on the Magical Mile for over 10 years. It is owned and operated by Kathy Saksa, former chair of the Wolcott Street/Lakewood Road Business Association, and the 2002 recipient of the Malcolm Baldridge Volunteer of the Year award.
